Fresh Pond Run Pool
For Saturday's Fresh Pond workout, I'm going to leave my place a bit after 9a to pick up Archard then Karina for a run pool warmup.
Let me know if you'd like to join and which location you'll start at. There is plenty of street parking at my location and Karina's.

NBB women stomp Downtown 5k
(The NBB announcements page is having issues. The weekend race results will be announced when possible.)
Great job to Rebecca for finishing 2nd at the Downtown Providence 5k. Results showed a pretty tight finish for the top three spots.
The NBB women's team won the USATF standings. Congrats to Rebecca, Jenn, Archard and Karina.
There is a Flotrak interview of Rebecca.

NBB RTB team good sports
Through the New Hampshire mountains' chilly air, we ran 207 miles from Cannon Mountain down to Hampton Beach. The New Balance Boston RTB team put up a good fight and stayed positive. However, we were no match for the Hello Kitty Athletic Club this year. The results tell the tale of how we ran with passion and the fun we had.
At the finish, the Kittys greeted us with good cheer, we shared some laughs and filled ourselves with chowder, grilled chicken and all the soda you can fit in.
The NBB team splits will be posted later. Thanks for another great RTB!

Ready to wring the beach out of this relay
We are now six hours away from heading up north for the much anticipated Reach the Beach Relay.
This past week has been full of preparations, communications and excitement.
The two Justins are bringing their "furry, cuddly" nature. Ryan is confident in his runner status as being "committed, and popular . . . and very handsome to boot." Newcomers to RTB, Mark, Chris, and Nicole, are in for an adventure. Lara and Christine are itching to show the Kittys that they've got catnip and are not afraid to use it. Laura and Liz plan to double team the Kittys' "female" runners. Tom and I bring our experience and wise ways... of having a killer time.

Season Opener Fun
First, many thanks to the Carraras for again hosting the Annual NBB Season Opener. You've opened your home and filled our stomachs.
Although the rain kept everyone out of the pool, plenty of fun was still had. Football on the tv provided entertainment, and foosball and ping pong games provided us with fierce competition. Next year, we'll be sure to provide official rules to all participants. (Goalies do not score two points in foosball).
If you have photos from the event, please feel free to post them on our team photo website. An album has already been created for the event.

Update! Run Pool to Fresh Pond
For Saturday's practice at Fresh Pond, the actual tempo starts at 10a (previously I said 9a, my apologies for any confusion).
For those driving, you need to arrive early enough to park, warmup, stretch, "etc" - that's why we have a meet time of 9a. Also, note that the parking lots at Fresh Pond are for Cambridge Residents Only. There is parking across Fresh Pond Parkway, in local business parking lots (choose wisely).
There is a group warming up to Fresh Pond from Watertown. The local Watertown-ites (myself, Jeff C, Karina, Archard) are run pooling there. I'll pick up Archard, then JC and Karina along the way. Contact me if you'd like to join.
Also, don't forget to RSVP to the NBB Season Opener cookout that's occurring at 2p on Saturday! If you didn't get an evite, you're not invited. Just Kidding! Please let us know. The system was quirky and some invitations were lost.
See you then!

RTB: NBB ready to take HKAC to the vet and "put them down"
September 18 marks the day of the next Reach the Beach faceoff between NBB's RTB team and the Hello Kitty Athletic Club (HKAC).
In 2007, NBB lost by 32 minutes over a 24 hour race. In 2008, NBB won by 6 minutes - with a co-ed team against an all-male team.
A video-texting scrimmage was setup at New Balance World Headquarters in Brighton, MA. It was just a preview of the carnage to be expected on the relay race course.
Stay tuned for the link to the video coverage and evidence.
HKAC took photos of the event. (Visit HKAC)

Run for Meatballs
Next Tuesday night will be another group run meeting at Bentley @6p (granted there isn't a soccer scrimmage that forces us to relocate).
We'll run, and do drills and/or workout. Afterwards, I'll be hosting dinner with the possible change in menu to meatballs and pasta (if any dietary considerations, please let me know).
If you think you'll be joining for dinner, please stake your claim on some meatballs.
(If there are any menu, location, time changes, they'll be announced here.)

Tuesday Group Run
Just letting NBB know that I'll be at Bentley on Tuesday 9/18 to do the warmup with the women who are still working out. I believe Jeff Caron will be there too to do the warmup with the men who are still working out.
Then, for those who were at Bentley, we're doing burger night back at my place afterwards.
So if you're interested in joining our group run and having some burgers afterwards, meet at Bentley promptly at 6p.
Let me know who to expect for dinner so I can buy enough food. Also, let me know if you have dietary restrictions (vegetarian, etc).
Happy running,
Yvonne

Wanted: Women
... to fill our NBB Reach the Beach Relay team. The running event is September 18-19 and we still need one to two women to fill our roster.
For any NBB women or any prospective women looking to join NBB, this is a great way to get to know NBB in a way you never thought possible (ooh-la-la).
All kidding aside, this is a great running event that consists of a 200 mile road relay over 24 hours, run by 12 people (6 men, 6 women) doing 36 different legs, where each person runs 3 tempo legs totaling an average of 16 miles. Starting in the White Mountains of NH, we make our way in 2 vans of 6 people to Hampton Beach, where we strip and jump into the ocean (ok, only some people strip. Alright, fine, only I do).
New Balance (the race sponsor) is providing a FREE race entry (over $1000) and each member gets a spiffy NB tech jacket and a pair of NB trainers. They are also organizing our hotel stay, van rentals, and pre-race dinner and breakfast (which we're responsible for paying but is a small fee compared to what is provided us).
Please let me know if you're interested (contact via the nbboston.com Contact Us page).
P.S. Sorry men, we've already got a full roster of you. Maybe next year.
